The magazine says itself that it contains ‘meat free food made easy’. If you thought that vegetarian food was bland and boring then you clearly have never read an issue of Cook Vegetarian magazine. The emphasis is on wholesome healthy seasonal food which is easy and quick to make. To be honest the first recipe that jumped out at us in one issue of the magazine was a ‘strawberry trifle with pimms’ this idea just sounded delightful to us with our particular love of sweet treats. You could also decorate your trifle with lots of fruit so you can get one of your five a day as well, what’s not to love?
The main dishes don’t look too bad either; we particularly liked the sound of ‘coucous with apricots, broccoli and feta cheese with a mint dressing’. If you have some preconceptions about vegetarian food, perhaps you are a dedicated bacon fan and feel certain that you could never eat a meat free meal? If so, we challenge you to have a good look through this magazine and not get tempted by one of the recipes. The magazine stresses that vegetarian food can be enjoyable and tasty despite what other people may think.
There are also interesting new eco-friendly product sections which showcase the very best new green cookery products being released at the moment. There will be items such as an energy free espresso maker and organic cotton tea towels or our personal favourite; a Greener Planet wine which is produced in plastic bottles, which means it’s lighter and needs less fuel for transport, it also interestingly has space for two extra glasses of wine because of its novel packaging, we definitely like the sound of this eco-friendly wine!
