Some don’t realise it, but personalised interior design is highly important to everyone. In your own home, you want it to reflect and compliment your various moods and personality, whether that be crisp modern pieces or shabby older and more character-based stuff. I fit into the latter category… Anything slightly frayed around the edges that may have a bit of a story behind it will be right up my street. I love second hand pieces of furniture because they’ve been worn in a bit, given some love and personality. Events have happened on or around those chairs, tables, cabinets and that life has been poured into them.
Personally, I can’t wait to have a place of my own that I can litter with rag rugs, mismatching furniture and knick knacks. However I’m positive that there are many who would judge my style with utter dismay. There are those who, quite understandably, like their homes to be fully functioning with the aid of the latest and coolest electronics, hidden televisions and waste disposal units inside the sinks. I always admire these expensive looking homes with polished granite floors and sparkling stone surfaces, cream white sofas and stylish abstract art all over the place.
These homes are stunning… but far too grown up for the likes of me. However, I’d really like to think that they always will be.
