Keep on top of the latest crazes when it comes to exercising and dieting can be a bit of a chore in itself. This week you’re not allowed carbs, then next week it’s better to avoid eggs and milk altogether. Do you follow the calorie count, or go for anything less than 4% fat? It’s hugely complicated, because our budding scientists are always doing new studies in an attempt to make dieting as easy as possible.
So what is in trend at the moment? Fitness Magazine is telling me I should eat lots of fish, frozen meals under 400 calories and treat myself with peanut butter on rice cakes. The only one I have trouble with is the frozen meals under 400 calories, because they are often extremely high in carbohydrates and salt, which are both pretty bad for you. I’ve always been under the impression that a balance between regular exercise and a farmer’s diet is the way to go. Good bread and cheese, meat with virtually no fat on it and lots of home grown fruit and veg. Shephard’s Pie, creamy pastas, stews and soups, all high in the good stuff but low in fat and sugar, and I’ve decided those are the two most obvious enemies. Generally, food is meant to be enjoyed, especially if it is good for you, which quite honestly, most of it is if you can put in the extra effort and 10 minutes picking things more carefully in the supermarket!
