This is one of our favourite magazines at the moment. It's got it all, a big heart and a great conscience. This type of activity is also what the print magazine is made for - we can't see many downloads for the Your Chickens iPad edition...
Each issue will have advice for complete beginners and help you bring in the right chickens as well as look at hatching your own chicks. Disease, feeding options and coops are all heavily featured and there are plenty of articles aimed at children to get them involved. There are even egg recipes to help you use up the huge egg mountain that you'll be struggling with as your successful chicken rearing operation takes off.
It's also interesting to note just how the many breeds of chicken and fowl differ, from the almost ancient Speckled Sussex hen to the various Leghorn hybrids being developed for disease free and productive lives.
Here at Newsstand, we morally sit somewhere between giving them names and taking potshots at them from the bedroom window, but we really appreciate that this sort of hobby is the way forward. Get those wellies on and let's reintegrate our society with the animal kingdom, man. Beats a cat, surely?
