We think that every issue of Home Farmer was written by someone with a big beaming smile on their face. We can see it being eagerly read by the likes of Tom Good from The Good Life reading this and cracking a few jokes as he does so.
Home farmer has perhaps the most apt strapline we have ever seen – ‘The Magazine for Dreamers and Realists’. It is pretty perfect whether you want to have a serious go at growing pretty much all your own food, or at least enough to sell some and get by, or simply potter around the garden doing what you can.
The idea of self-sufficiency has always interested us here at Newsstand – after all, subsistence farming was pretty much what every family did in the middle ages and earlier in order to survive. It just goes to show how far removed from the people who had to toil and struggle simply to survive when we can just pop down the shops and grab whatever we desire. Most of us probably no longer have the knowledge needed to survive in a world where that access is cut off.
So, come the apocalypse it is the Home Farmers who will survive. Oh, and of course food grown yourself is infinitely better tasting than stuff from the supermarket – there’s nothing as delicious as something you’ve put your own time and effort into. NB
