The designs and projects featured in Lapidary Journal Jewelry (yes, that doesn’t quite look right to us either but that's how they spell it) are really rather breathtakingly good. We think that this magazine is aimed both at professionals and amateurs, because if the people behind some of these designs aren’t doing it for a living then they are mad.
Whether it’s shaping metal to fit your mental image, working with semi-precious gemstones or even petrified wood, the craft is approached with care and dedication in Lapidary Journal. The featured artisans are astonishingly good at what they do, making the kind of items that we would love to receive as gifts or be proud giving.
The art of lapidary looks like quite a lot of fun, though perhaps not something best suited to those who are short on attention or patience. Whilst it does require significant levels of dedication and time, it really shows in the resulting products. We are rather tempted to have a go ourselves, and if we can get all the kit together we just might. Mind you, it normally takes us a while to move beyond the terrible looking accident stage of production to something that someone wouldn’t be ashamed to wear, so apologies to anyone who receives such a gift – just hide it away and we will soon forget we ever gave it to you.
