I love scrapbooking, mainly because I have a scarily appalling memory. It is for this reason that every time I go somewhere different to my every day routine I collect little memories of that day. A trip to London might produce a theatre ticket, a food receipt, a leaflet and a photo or two. A beach trip brings back a shell, ice cream receipts, photos, dried out seaweed and sea glass. So you get the idea.
Scrapbooking is about the ability to freeze memories and wake them up with the turn of a page. I tend to decorate my scrap books with newspaper and magazine cuttings, bits of leftover material or just my own doodlings, but I know people who take real pride in making their scrapbooks look professional and pretty. Either way, it’s such a brilliant creative outlet for anyone who is maybe a little bit talented at a lot of things, rather than extremely talented at doing one or two things.
Take me for example. I am terrible at drawing and painting, but I’m pretty good at photography and little ink patterns, and I just plain like art in general, even if I’m not great at producing it myself. So when it comes to a blank page of a scrapbook, you can do anything you like without feeling the need to do anything specific, which is incredibly freeing and relaxing.
