We’ve heard of Kerrang, you’ve heard of Kerrang, pretty much everyone, we reckon, has heard of Kerrang. This is one of the UK’s leading rock and metal mags, and it certainly deserves that accolade. Each issue brings you the latest and hottest news from the world of rock and heavy metal music, and it is all written in an irreverent but undeniably passionate style – these guys may make a bunch of jokes, but they are serious when it comes to the music.
Kerrang, you may be thinking, has a slightly strange sounding name. Take a second and try and figure out where it came from. Don’t worry, we’ll still be here.
Got a few ideas? Excellent. You get one point for thinking that it might be onomatopoeic, minus one point for linking it to a cymbal, two points if you reckon it might be related to a guitar, and a bonus 10 points if you identify is as being the crunching, punching noise made by a power chord, that most reliable and traditional chord of rock and metal. Without the power chord the world of rock would be a very different place – punk would likely have never been invented, songs would lack punch and rhythm and things in general would be different. There would certainly be no Green Day, a band who built their entire career around three power chords (G#, C# and B for anyone interested).
Much like the power chord, without Kerrang magazine the world of music would be a blander and more boring place. NB
Kerrang Magazine is in the Heavy Metal category and is just one of over 3,000 magazines now available at Newsstand, to browse recent front covers of Kerrang Magazine, please click here.
